Listless, Not Lonely

I lie on my back on the rug on the floor
And stare at the ceiling and watch 24
I listen to the static play on the radio
And every night I bury my face in the pillows
I drink off-brand soda and mope on the porch
Light all my fireworks two weeks till the 4th
I spend hours a day just watching the clouds
And hours at night just forgetting about
I listen to love songs and screamer and flutes
Pull threads from the blankets and paint the walls blue
Drag my bed out to the middle of the lawn
And sleep under it all night until it is dawn
And I'll still stay up all night and sleep until three
Making bread sandwiches with nothing in between
They ask if I'm lonely and I smile at that
And say 'of course not, but why do you ask?'

There was a song a long time ago called "Counting Flowers on the Wall". It's in the movie "Pulp Fiction". It's a catchy song, and I thought of it as I was reading your poem. Nice rhythm and emotion written in each line. I love the part about pulling the bed out onto the lawn. Very good! T.

The title reflected well in the piece. This is good. It had an amphibrach rhythm to it in the beginning and then slid smoothly into a nursery rhyme beat. Great job. Yvylyn
