My Mother Said...

My mother said'¦
That I should tell the truth,
Not to lie,
But to always be honest.
Then I will receive the same.

My mother said'¦
If you cannot say anything nice,
Do not say anything at all.
So how can I do that when she told me to tell the truth?

My mother said'¦
To always wear clean knickers,
In case a bus should hit me!
What would she think if she knew I did not wear any?

My mother said'¦
To protect those that I love,
However, they are the ones that hurt you the most.
And who we hurt in return.

My mother said'¦
That love should last forever,
When you find the right one,
But who is to say that they are the right one.

My mother said'¦
To think before you speak,
As that is how you look silly.
Sometimes I wish I could remember that one.

My mother continues to say'¦
That as I get older,
I will say the same things to my children.
God in heaven, I hope not!

I loved the contrast between the earlier parts (verses?) and the last one. It's exactly what i've always felt! Well done!

I enjoyed this, of course I can remember being told all those things and still get told many of them. But as you started every verse with 'My mother said...' I couldn't help but hear Lenny kravitz in the background, making his guitar scream.

Anyway, enjoyed your work, looking forward to reading more.
