Welcome to the future

This is the future then...
Well its leaving a bitter taste
Knowing that people watching
Scrutinizing us
With such a distressing pace.

Monitoring our vehicles
Every movement is being laced
Knowing why, where and when
From the banknotes we use
To the last time you bought toothpaste.

Next there will be hidden signals in our clothes
Obscured chips within the belts around our waist
They all say it is for our protection
But when we are all treated like thieves, extremists
Where should our true loyalty be based?

And are we just a statistic now?
Why is our uniqueness now left untraced?
As there is more to the human soul
Than the congested list
In which our details are placed.

Too many decisions are made without our consent!
The modern day agenda just seems a little two faced
As we have become lab rats living on radio waves
So this the future then: where privacy, trust,
And individuality is so brutally disgraced!?

I like the idea portrayed by this poem. It's very clear. But it almost makes me wish it was a little more subtle.

I like the lines:
"Monitoring our vehicles
Every movement is being laced
Knowing why, where and when
From the banknotes we use
To the last time you bought toothpaste."
