Like Falling Angels

He said he liked her,
Got her hopes up
So they could touch the sky,
They told the angels
That she had found 'the one',
They sniggered
With a glow of red in their eyes,
They told the devil,
Who shouted it amongst hell,
Sent the bats to carry the tears,
The demons felt pity,
Told her that it would be alright,

They cried when she wept,
Smiled when she laughed,
She never felt alone,
They hid in the shadows of her mind,
If you looked in her eyes,
Into her soul,
You could see them,
Scowling,
Covered in fire and flowers,
Protecting,
Eating emotions,
Doing what they thought was right.

He made up his mind,
His dreams were with someone else,
His soul was blinded,
By the words leaking from her mouth,
His skin was burnt from the fire in her eyes,
Her want was just too much,
Her mind too free,
The angels told him to leave,
So he did,
They flew around him as he walked,
Showing their bloody fangs as they smiled,
Flexing their claws as they stroked his head,

That was when her hopes fell,
To the cold earth,
Like falling angels.

I like how you blame the angels... dark. It reminds me of Poe's Annabelle.. "the angels covetted her and me"... Nice metaphor... dark but full of feeling.

Powerful, evocative. Reminds me of the dark splendor of Coleridge's Kubla Khan. A wonderful creation.
