Broken Reflection

I lie down, gazing upon my own reflection
As it sits there, idly staring back from the waters edge
Every so often, twisted comically astray
As ripples spread across its façade
Formed by the hands of a zephyr breeze
Though always to return to its calm
No mark left of the winds passing

Suddenly the surface is torn asunder
Shattering my image before my eyes
A single drop is responsible
And shortly after another
My mirror losing its shape
Gathering itself in small waves

The lone drops are coupled with more
The sound of their patter rising
One by one they hit, with no pause
Is it just another storm?
It seems there is to be no end
To this unexpected deluge

I started to reflect on you
But my memory is so worn
I wonder, had we ever met?
My thoughts, short as the drops life
Will you be there when it is past?
Or washed away, gone once again?

I cannot be sure if I even shed tears again
Hidden away as they are, by the rising mist
Gone like a kite in the wind
I don't know what to feel now
I am unable to deny it
Beginning now to realize
My heart is forlorn to me
