Small electric smiles flit like schizophrenic butterflies.
Pout like church bells, peer up at unfamiliarness, Doe eyes.
A leg is a fortification, but the sun still in shyness shines.
Eventually a tottering acceptance appears, till waving Bye-Byes.

Smile at the Pitter-pat
Careful with the Kitty-Cat
Music timed with Rat-Tat-Tat
Darling, don't grow out of that

Heavy bass, beating hearts, you've got Daddy there.
Soft sobs and jingling laughter all have places in long hair.
Antiquity is the mystery of the shriveled day-old pear,
Brilliance is the light as you're dancing on the chair.

Smile at the Pitter-pat
Careful with the Kitty-Cat
Music timed with Rat-Tat-Tat
Darling, don't grow out of that

Spaghetti bowl, weight in tow, it doesn't matter if you know,
Juice boxes, when you press, make pretty patterns in the snow.
Pacifier makes you drowsy, Humpty is your happy beau,
Clap so hard, feel so deep, so happy with your cheerio.

Smile at the Pitter-pat
Careful with the Kitty-Cat
Music timed with Rat-Tat-Tat
Darling, don't grow out of that

that was really neat. I loved the planned repetition, the evocation of the mood of a child and its playthings, the way you kept a steady cadence to it. very nice..thanks for sharing

I really like the lyrical structure of this piece and the sentiment behind it is awsome. The lucky ones in this world are the ones who can look into the eyes of a child and reclaim some of that joy for themselves.
The very lucky ones are the ones who never lost it in the first place.

Feeling very lucky
Cat.

"A Very Special Child"

by Debra Shiveley Welch

God takes some sweetness from the Cherubs, music from the birds, laughter from the dolphins, and wraps them in love from the mother, placing them all carefully into the spirit of the unborn babe; a beautiful gift of life waiting to be placed in the arms of adoptive parents.

A Very Special Child
