The Darker Side of Her Pretty Face

Sleeping in tired corners
Not from exhaustion,
But from lack of choice
Breathing gently and waiting
Their words are sharper than their nails
Their eyes so much more peaceful than their thoughts

When the lights go out,
The shadows no longer bind them to corners
Awaken they will
Speak they will
Perform they will
Their tired hands drag on the ground
Leaving ripples in the silence
Dragging images of your sorrow behind them

There is violence in the shadows
They know where to cut
They know where you like to bleed the most
So much do they know,
Their innocent eyes,
Their soft claws and bitter words,
So much they know,
about that darker side of you that sleeps next to your pretty face.

(you invited them inside)

I really enjoy this piece, especially the lines:
"Leaving ripples in the silence
Dragging images of your sorrow behind them"
Ripples in the silence... beautiful. Kind of a reminder that everyone has their dark side... great poem :). Thanks for sharing.
