Piccadilly's Players
I work under a blanket of midnight stars,
It's an outdoor show, so I'll expect heels tapping on the tarmac.
My stage is set and my audience - strange,
Years of reluctant rehearsals start flooding back.
I used to give stellar performances in up-market bars
But as age got the better of me, my venues changed,
I ended up delivering lines into windows of desperate cars.
My voice and figure started to sag and this really affected what I could charge.
I had an agent once - he took most of my money
And he used to beat me too, now I'm freelance.
'Hey gorgeous, you lookin' for a good time? You like what you see, baby?'
Winter's a slow season and its always freezing.
