Oak

The oak tree that once was tall and strong
Carried me in his bows when I was young
Showed me right from wrong
Helped me to grow up strong and straight
Never bending with the changing wind
Seeing him wither before me my heart grows heavy
Soon no more will he feel the breeze
His life cut short by deaths sharp axe
The memories, his seeds he planted will live on
And though he wasn't always perfect
No one ever is
He will always be my strong oak tree

Gosh I wish they wouldn't chop the oak trees down - sympathy shared.

it is quite a plegerization from the William Couper's "the Poplar Field" written many years back.
poplars feelled down
farewell to the shade....

i'm sorry if i have been very critical...

I love the comparison between your father and the strength of oak. Very loving and challenging poem. Julie
