I came from a land where machines
______spooled the monsters from behind the clouds
__________(the monsters that ate our fears
________flayed by art still lank of breath)
______and turned them into rolls of
________________paper towels
_________tin foil
_________symbols,
_________all of us,

I came from the land where I waited
__(on curbs, walls and dumpsters, and stepladders)
_______________for the coming of my parents' car
_______________for a flowering in my ribcage
________________________while my library card was studied
______________________and in it my many names
_____________________________my mea culpas
__________________________and my loveless thirsty marrow
I came from a land that is yet newsprint
I came from a land that is never so trusting
