Flame

The flickers of
red-orange and yellow
illuminate the dark
navy of the penetrating
night that drapes over
the shoulder of a sleeping
world that turns light to dark
and dark to darker.

Shadows grow
while sentries sleep
in the golden glow of
the single hope that
the night offers to a
weary highwayman
and hungry beggar.

Tales of horror and
of fascination
grow too incalculable
proportions in the
ray of comfort that
is sworn to be
heaven sent.

a false god,
worshiped by
fools with no
real god to turn to.

Whoa. Very deep. Leaves a person wondering about hope . . . is there any to be found anywhere? Is there such a thing a true hope? Well done.
