Neurotransmitter

Existentialistic
She exists
Deteriorating like acid on skin
In mouth
She claims
Serotonin
trained her
Effexor
tamed her
it was merely a placebo
she was a placebo

Ouch. She was a placebo. I could only imagine what would happen if someone compared my existence to that of an effectively... effectless... or artificiality I suppose. Pretty potent stuff you're working with, struggling musician, writer, poet, and lesbian all in the body of a 17 year old.

May I offer a piece of constructive... not criticism... just constructive data. It is fantastic that you're a struggling Musician, Writer, and poet as it is; struggling keeps us all humble. Forgive me if I doubt your struggling lesbianism, that is, you either are, or you are not.

Your talent is based on who you are, and what you were gifted with. Somehow your sexuality doesn't impact your achievements as the founding Mother of a poetry club, or the poetry slams you participate; it may be your muse; it may inspire you... but I think that your aspirations and successes; the streak of independence that lives in you is all you.

I'm a 27 year old heterosexual male. Same rebellious streak you have; I bick my head and have like six tattoos. I'll have more. My tattoos, and my rebellion; my sexuality; none of it created my need to succeed in this industry. Our world is hard, fellow writer.

The difference between aspiration and success is only follow through. Like you, I'vebeen on my own since I was young. I never allowed myself a fall net, or backup plan... those only make it easier to quit.

Follow through.

As it is, I believe it was Dean Koontz who said:

"Not all published authors are great writers, but all great writers, eventually, will be published authors."

I think this includes you, if you can hand a little constructive advice, from your brethren. You're good, and I look forward to reading more of your work. I hope for you the best, and will be reading avidly.

J. Edward Nolan

PS: Your work is fantastic.

I'm hooked on placebos. I'd give them up, but it wouldn't make any difference.
