I know when I'll get there
Sometimes I'm scared
I'll get lost
When the whisper of the pen
Sneaks its way into my heart
Right through to my finger tips
My palms itch
I know its time to write
'But what shall we write?'
My mind echoes,
Forming an invisible road block
On a journey that promises fantasy, adventure
But the words seem to form somewhere else
They take shape and structure as they travel through my mind
Only willing to reveal all
when they fall on the page
Through the tip of the pen
I'm scared to go where I don't know all the answers
But I'll know when I get there
I've done it before
Stepped out on a leap of faith
Blindly trusting
That I'll get there
At the end of an story, a poem
Something will have taken shape
A mystery even to me.
An answer to what's truly inside
A help to those who read
This is why I write
To know the power inside.

| Thanks for sharing this honest account. We all go through these little opposing feelings at times which somehow ends in a piece that suprises ourselves. I like how you have mentioned this in the second half of your poem. |

| All writing is a journey. You start out maybe knowing the direction you're going, but the destination becomes clear only when you reach the end. Starting out is a little scary. You've said it well. |

You've just described the art of writing poetry to a T, Selina. I, too, sit down and start a poem wondering where it's going to lead to... and as the words flow out, I wonder where they're coming from? And when I reach the last line I know it's the last line, because it tells me so.
"But the words seem to form somewhere else
They take shape and structure as they travel through my mind
Only willing to reveal all

Through the tip of the pen"
Exactly.
"Iā??m scared to go where I donā??t know all the answers
But Iā??ll know when I get there
Iā??ve done it before"
That feeling of deja-vu... I get it all the time. This is another brilliant poem, Selina. I'm going to put this one of my bookshelf (for starters). |
