Knowing You Knowing Me

I don't know the colour of your eyes
But they burn right through my deepest illusions
Of what I think I know, of who I am

I don't know the sound of your voice
But I hear it in your word
Cutting to the quick of the matter in my spirit

I don't know the shape of your nose or your ears
But I know they formed the velvet texture of the rose
And mixed the scent of jasmine in springtime

I don't know the feel of your hands in mine
Or your arms around me
But yet when I am alone, I can feel you all around me

I don't know how you stand my fickle nature
And still answer me with your grace
So that something redeemable is seen in me

I don't understand, how you will make a blessing of me
When I am so poor in compassion and holiness
So alive only to the sound of my own voice and my desires

I don't know how you see everything
Including me and still make me feel like this one moment of my lifespan
Is the only thing in your universe of eternity that means something

I don't know everything you've made with your fingers
Or hollowed out with the depths of your hands
Yet you know my first breath even before I was born

I hunger for you and I thirst like I am in a desert
To know you in a place that can only resonate with true and total faith
That you are who you say you are, That I am who you say Iam

Thanks Kevin and Scotspoetry reader. Its interesting using human relationship love imagery on a being that has no form or gender. It is highly personal, but what's the pointing of writing it if you're not going to share it with the world.

Hi Selina,

From my perspetive, I see this as a very deep and meaningful and personal expose of your faith and relationship with your god! fantastically written, not one stanza superseeds the other in excellence. A beautiful compelling read, that to me has certainly not been commented on enough by the readers on this site.. Bravo on such great write!

This is another wonderful love poem, Selina - either for God or your dream man (or both). And it works with both sexes, I could feel these lines:
"I donā??t know the feel of your hands in mine
Or your arms around me
But yet when I am alone, I can feel you all around me"
- That's exactly how I feel about my dream woman. She's always in my head, never in my bed. "Yet you know my first breath even before I was born"...
Your poems are an absolute joy to read, Selina.
