Gates

The rusty gates just won't open for me
I see the greener grass, I can almost smell the fresher air
I stretch out my hand, grasping at what can never be
The smile that forms on my lips is one of pain and hurt
The light in my soul has gone out
The life I never lived taunts me from the other side
Darkness encloses around me and the tears that fall down my cheek are the only reminder that I am alive
I can taste the salt, feel the liquid as it trickles over my lips
Night surrounds me, no stars left to illuminte my path...
