Fortune Teller
I walk
darkness draping over my shoulders
perverted reflections of light
play hide and seek
beneath my feet
my senses captured in the eddy
created
by the roar
and
breath of the ocean
mixing
with the voice
and
buzz of the streets
the fortune teller
appears before me in the darkness
'Your energy
is very strong'
the fortune teller says with a smile
Another step
'A woman
is very envious of you'
the fortune teller says
Challenging my curiosity
'I see tears
many tears
that you hide inside
and cover with a smile
so no one can see'
the fortune teller says
'come sit down
only $10, I'll read your palms'
the fortune teller says
amused,
I sit,
and unfold my book
into her hands
from the deeply etched lines
she renders my story
a story I already know
I stand,
look up to the heavens
the darkness punctured
by points of illumination
I walk
darkness draping over my shoulders
