Meteor Shower

I lie on my back
     under a sky of black

the twinkling of stars
     dance in my sight

connecting points of light
     paint pictures in my mind

scanning the heavens
     for stars in flight
to wish upon through the night

the moon
     creeps across the sky
          indicating time gone by

     the river hums
as it flows and bends
      passing over
         stones
           and
         bones

shutting my eyes
     the world dies

as I drift away
     to echoes of the day
