Far from here I go
When the pen hits the pad
New worlds open
And my mind is ever ready
Sometimes I get so excited
I can't keep my hands steady
All that I carry within
I pour onto paper
I slowly construct the story
So that each moment I will savor
Every drop of sweat is seen when it's read
Every tear has been felt everytime a person has said:
"Thank you for sharing your story with me"
"Thank you for dipicting you emotions so deeply"
Sometimes I write simply to get a point across
Sometimes I write to display pain, love or lost
Closer to you all only with the pen in hand
Closer am I finally to understanding the man
That was given the gift of expression
And the key to the people's hearts
A legacy to leave behind
That can never be taken apart
I write for my family, my friends, my city and my people
I write for the old, the young, the strong and the feeble
Never to let anyone get in my way
From taking my feelings and putting them on display
Whatever I feel, I write
Whether they think it's wrong or right
I do this for those who are black
And as well as white
Because I don't lose any sleep at night
Worrying about what other people think
Because if you don't like it
Remember: It's just paper and ink
Which are two things that have become more important to me than any hobby or fad
Because the only time I'm at peace
Is when the pen hits the pad
