Dusk Before the Dawn

On the dawn of a new year
I do not know what to feel.
I can't regret the past year,
but it seems to all be dust.

All my effort, all my work,
all my feelings lay bare,
and I am hollow, broken,
shattered through my soul.

A year ago, I wanted nothing more
than to be with her across the distance.
Now, I still want the same,
but things have changed so much.

I feel out of control,
I don't know which way to turn.
I can't stand losing her,
and I can't face a year alone.

Without her, I see no bright future,
I can see no light,
as the darkness consumes me,
my love, unreturned.

Heartfelt and depressing at the same time. The kind of mixture I like in a piece. There is a similarity between our worlds, I guess. Been though tough times since moving here in the Big Apple but each New Year brings hope, though it may not be candy coated.
