the way the cookie crumbles (200 Word Challenge)

They sit at their usual table at Sum Dow's. He orders what he always gets-- the General Tso's Chicken and she gets the Moo Goo Gai Pan because she's never had it before.

They have been chit-chatting for fifteen minutes when their meal arrives. She decides to wait until after they eat, it will be better then. She doesn't want to spoil dinner. Then she considers if there is ever really a good time to tell one's husband you are having an affair?

He passes her the lo mein and says, 'So, what was so important that you wanted to talk to me about?'

'Well,' she says, 'It's something I've been meaning to talk to you about for some time.'

Then nervous, she grabs a fortune cookie from the bowl in the middle of the table, smiles at him and says, 'Hold on.' She opens the fortune cookie and it reads: 'Only report good news or no news at all.'

'Well,' she says, 'I've decided to accept the promotion they offered me.'

'Oh hon,' he says, 'that's great news! Great news! I knew you could do it!'

wow...ok so I saw this was a 200 word challenge so I had to read this. I loved it, it grabs your attention and makes me ask so many questions. Why was she having an affair?? What's the backround on these two nameless characters? This was a nice read :)

I'm jealous of people who can write well written long prose as well as flash, and by that, I mean you...

*Sets envy aside*

This was a cute little story. I feel bad for the woman that she has to cheat to find any fulfillment and I find pity for the man, not seeing the signs.

Like everyone else, I like how you used the fortune cookie to help her make her decision. Good job, Tracey. As always...
