recognition

i searched for beauty in others and saw none in myself
always putting my ear against another hollow shell
and hearing wind pretending at ocean's depth
and all just blew through me like an icy cold breath
i am stuff of autumn leaves not turning into spring
but these are the spells that dark thoughts bring
if i could seal the world in a single kiss with you
would that make what happens outside any less true?
we cast a spell that renewed the failing planet
and etched the new rules for renewal in granite
part of it was though we found, in each other, our keys
that we should remember the world is only what each of us sees
for if we do not know that we heal ourselves too
there is nothing anyone else can really do
we gave this gift to each other and i promise never to forget
because only living my life to the full will ever settle the debt

Paul, you made me pause on this page. There is a sadness here also a reassuring tone. Lovely truth.

I agree with Manda. All those news were too close for me, too. Other than that, I loved this one. The sadness is definitely palatable. *hugs you*
