Be The Meatball

Spaghetti is nothing without the meatball;
it adds color and flavor to the dish.
The world, without you;
the one they laugh at
and call meatball,
would be a bland place to live,
yet exist.
So be proud that they call you a meatball,
as without you,
they'd all look like
long, skinny, limp,
boring,
strands of shit.

I really do love this little poem. As someone who has always stuck out of the crowd like a sore thumb -- sometimes to my benefit, and sometimes not so much -- I can really relate to it. I like how it is humorous, yet thoughtful at the same time. I find myself wondering how I could have ever wanted to be anything other than a meat ball! Nice job!

Life would be boring without the meatballs to spice things. It's an enjoyable read.

I so want to share this with my 8th graders! I think they would totally relate...and love that it's a meatball metaphor!

I had no idea so many people would find this piece enjoyable. I thought to upload this poem to be of comfort to those who've suffered ridicule for being unlike the crowd, be it their oddity lie with weight, race, beliefs, sexuality, whatever.

I am happy readers found it to be such a mood lifter.

Thanks for the sharing your comments.
