My Visiting Angel

Last year was a period,
When happiness and utter frustration
Intermingled,
Deciding that friendship was the best result
After meeting.

They stuck together 'til the end-
Constant companions and
The epitome of loyalty.

Sharp objects visited,
And blood made invitations
For upcoming parties'
The guest of honor
Became inner sadness,
Paired with exscrutiating pain.
And they had the time of their lives
In my mind.

An end to the constant blaring
And chatter of visitors-
Made visions of darkness acceptable- for
Happiness in this friendship-like tie
Had become submissive and quiet
While its comrade took control,
And brought the illusion-like content
Along for the ride'

But now a separation has occurred,
During my holiday seasons,
Over delightful presents and pine
And I'm left with peace and true happiness-
One that won't leave me behind.

Though'
Amidst all this,
I can't help but wonder,
On those nights that darkness permeated
That thick container of a skull'

The thoughts,
They swim deeply in the
Cold, dark water'.
Thick and seemingly congealed like jello'
Like thick globs to my brain's lungs-
A thief of sanity.

The solution?
Mother says, I am the favor of the Lord,
And I find comfort in that,
As His hands envelope me warmly.
That he sends down angels to care unconditionally
About others in tempting situations'

Like you-
And I'll strive for you,
Become soldier on the front line for you-
Because I love you-
A love that is shared through and through by
Common pain- mingled strife'
And the bond is unbreakable

Anything you ask of me'

I'm afraid I don't get this one. Is it unrequited love? I couldn't get a handle on the tone. I couldn't follow a thread; it seemed to jump around from theme to theme. I sensed a story that wanted to emerge, but got kind of buried. I think this could be an example of language obscuring a simple story or emotion. I didn't connect with this poem, but I suspect that you also had problems connecting with this one, Rachael.
