The Library

All is gravely quiet
The silence of the ghosts
Of lives captured between the covers
Ashes to ashes
The stories hold fast the hopes
And dreams of millions of souls
I pick up an ancient tome
Dust to dust
What cowardly secrets or noble deeds
Are forever locked in black ink
On your yellow, crinkled paper-skin?
I bury you
Back in your shelf

I love the physicality of this image, it is succinct and fully realised. The language is simple and is stronger for that. It captures the historical reverence for thoughts caught and preserved on vellum leaves like rare or now extinct butterflies. Love it x

This feels very much like an adventure, which reading certainly is. :)

Too bad we will never live long enough to learn all of the secrets buried between those dusty covers. I enjoyed this quite a lot and thought it was very well written.

Great descriptive passage.

I really likes the line:
"The silence of the ghosts
Of lives captured between the covers"

It really sets the pace and scene. A spooky feeling for the piece. Personally I might have went with a church feeling - the Temple of writing, but it just shows you what why other people thing. Great.
