the smile
Innocent smiles weave their web of deceit, hiding years of pain and lust for retribution
Only the steely glint in your eyes reveals your purpose to those of like kind
Reluctant to take your bait but longing for one with understanding of my fate
I brave your web thinking in my heart that I can tame the beast, become its master
Your childlike beauty, your most effective weapon tugs at my strings
Chipping away at my defenses stone by stone, I proudly display their strength.
You deftly undermine my fortress walls with nothing but a smile
I stand in denial of your power over me, still thinking I possess control
In the final moments of my freedom, my fate becomes apparent
I use my finest maneuvers to escape your desirable claws
I find them useless as you are relentless in your pursuit
The hunter becomes the hunted, another helpless victim of your innocent smile
