Friends Like You

With friends like You,
Who needs enemies?
Like a persistant ex,
You come back to haunt me,
And follow me everywhere,
Waiting for me
To slip up.

With friends like You,
Who needs enemies?
Like an abusive boyfriend,
You whisper lies in my ear,
You lean over my shoulder,
Waiting for me
To slip up.

With friends like you,

Anorexia,

I am weak,
You are strong,
And I may never
Beat you.

This brought a lot of memories back for me. I was once hired to teach a girl to play guitar who happened to be very ill with anorexia. She had been encouraged to learn music as a way of expressing the feelings that triggered her anorexia - a condition that I knew very little about. She is now, I'm happy to say, recovered and is a rising star on the local music scene.
She informed me that, for her, anorexia had been a form of self-harm - a manifestation of intense anger and helplessness, and that she felt it was only thing in her life she could control as a way of communicating with the world.
Of course, even though she has recovered she still hears it's call when times are bad.

Anyway.

I am really blown away by the energy and emotion in your writing. It reminds me a lot of Kate's (that's her name, she remains a good friend to this day) songs and poetry and I think you've got quite a talent for expressing things that are incredibly hard to pin down and write about.
Don't stop writing, you've definitely got something.

I loved this piece. I enjoyed the part about "you whisper lies into my ear" because even though I've never dealt with this issue personally it gives me a clear insight of what it must be like to struggle with it. Great job as usual, keep it up!
