Soft Maracas

Redwing blackbird
telephone line
the sound
of its wings
as it flies over me
like soft maracas
giving this morning
a rhythm
rolling in joy
praying to keep it slow
the only thing I want is
now
because I've been
crawling across
this field
on my bloodied
hands and knees
papers and boxes of junk
littering the ground
this was my world
this was all I knew
this is what broke her heart
And I couldn't seem to rise
I never thought this heartache
would end
but just then
soft maracas
just in time
redwing blackbird
telephone line
