I decided to stop thinking about you today
I decided to stop thinking about you today.
I weighed up the pros and cons
of devoting so much mental space and energy
to someone who wasn't,
could never be,
mine,
and in the end
-- I'm sorry --
but it didn't seem worth it.
I compiled my findings in a dossier,
presented my case
to the various delegates in my head,
and let them vote
on the matter of forgetting
you ever existed.
The motion carried six to two.
You can't argue with democracy like that.
So I decided to stop thinking about you.
It's working well for me.
I'm doing better
now that I've purged
all thoughts of you from my system.
I'm getting on with things
like living
again.
I find I have more time,
more headspace,
more peace of mind.
Yes,
I definitely
made the right choice.
It's all so much easier.
I should have done this months ago.
Right now
I'm not thinking about you at all.

| Beautiful--with some great irony. There's really nothing I can find that I have a problem with. great poem. |

Sadly, this seems to be a constant state of mind for me, sometimes. Expending so much energy to not think about someone, when you don't even realize that you still are, in your efforts to make someone not exist in your mind. Irony isn't without a sense of humor.
I love the feel to this piece. Almost like the writer is trying to convince herself more than anyone else that she is not thinking of this person. I especially like the part: "I'm getting on with things/like living/again". Great work. :] |

| I love this piece! The irony is great, the structure is great, the style is perfect, is anyone getting that I love this piece? |

Ah, love, such a sweet sweet thing, except when it bites you in the ass.

I love these two lines the most:
"The motion carried six to two./You can't argue with democracy like that."
I enjoyed the piece, and the ironic bite at the end. |
