Black Widows And Hearts Don't Mix...

(Story is 7 pages)

This is the very first story that I wrote so I know that there are a lot os mistakes... But don't worry I haven't edited it yet, I'll work on that another time...

Black widows and hearts don't mix'¦.by Derrick Kuebler'¦'¦

Dannie sat in the back corner of the room watching new faces stroll into the room. Most all of the kids that came into the classroom where seventh graders. But there was one face he recognized, and that was the face of Alexis.
Alexis was about five foot four. Her hair light brown hair was behind her head except for a single streak that stood in front of her right hazel eye. Her skin was slightly tan. She was a nice girl but her past wasn't even close to being even 1/16th as nice as she was. She had been an orphan until two months earlier when she ran away from the adopted home. She had been an orphan ever since her dad got thrown in prison (with life sentence) for chopping up her mom into tiny pieces and feeding it to costumers at the restaurant he owned. Her dad had a short temper and would make the biggest deal over the smallest problem. He had been to jail a few times before. Once he went to jail for beating up a man in a bar who said something that he didn't like. Another time he had been arrested for nearly killing a pedestrian that had crossed the street when it was his turn.
Alexis walked over to the table that Dannie was sitting at and sat across from him. They where basically best friends. She was the only one he could trust ever since he was back stabbed and lied to by his old friends. They sat a few minutes when the bell rang and Mr.Reiley walked to the front of the room. "Hello students", He said, and than waited for a reply. It came just as it was expected. The classroom was silent except for some noise as the students adjusted. "Well finally it's Friday. I've been waiting for this all week. Today we're not going to do anything but free draw", Mr. R explained. "Well you can begin'¦ There is some blank drawing paper in the front of the room". Almost instantly whispers started going through the room filled with students. Than some kids got up and got some paper. The whispers turned into regular talking. As Dannie sat quietly he could get a few words from almost all the conversations on his side of the room.
"So how was your first week of school?" Dannie asked Alexis. "It was pretty good", she replied. "Has anything exciting going on?" He asked. "Not really. My grandpa is letting me remodel my new room", She said. "How do you like it living with your grandpa?" Dannie asked. "It's better than the foster house. Plus he pretty much let's me do what I want; but that's because he's usually off at a bowling ally, or reading", She explained. "Oh. That sounds like fun. At my new house it's really boring", Dannie told her. "You moved? When did this happen?" Alexis asked. "After my mom died I had to move into my aunt and uncles' house", He replied. "Aw I'm sorry'¦ But if you don't mind me asking, How did it happen?" She asked. "I don't mind", He said. But oh yes of course he minded. But who wouldn't mind talking about how they lost everything? But still he would tell her the story. "Well for years my mom had had heart problems. But over the vacation she got so stressed out after she lost her job. She thought that she wouldn't be able to provide enough money for us. Well she had too much stress and it started affecting her heart. At first it wasn't that bad. But after about a week she started having trouble breathing. Than shortly after the breathing trouble she couldn't walk as well. I told her she needed to see a doctor but being her self she insisted that she'd be fine. But I knew she wouldn't, so I set her up an appointment. It was a Wednesday when her appointment was. So we went in. She went into the open heart surgery room. And I had to wait outside in the lobby. People came in, and people went out. And after a few hours I started to wonder what was going on. So I asked the receptionist if I could go in and take a look. But she said it was too dangerous for anyone to come in or to go out'¦. That they might get too much germs in or something like that. So I just sat down in some red and black checkered chair. Than it came to a point when the receptionist had left and I was the only person inside the lobby. Half of the lights turned off. So the only thing that lit the room was the two florescent lights that had stayed on. And the brown walls made it even darker than it really was. Than after the lights went out I heard the faint sound of footsteps getting closer to the lobby that I was in. With each step they took the sound of there feet hitting the black and white tile floor got louder. And with each step they took it got clearer that the person was in a hurry to get to there destination. Than I peered around the stained glass wall and saw that there was more than just one person. It was the receptionist with the poison control squad. My heart started beating really fast when I heard sounds of struggling inside the open heart surgery room. The receptionist and the poison control squad turned into the lobby I was in and hurried inside the room my mom was in. When they opened the door I heard the E.K.G. heart monitor going crazy. I got up and tried my hardest to get inside the surgery room. But the top surgeon pushed me out. So for three hours I sat out in the lobby waiting for any sign that would let me know how my mom was doing'¦ So when I heard a loud scream I looked up, I looked up just in time to see blood spatter all over the glass window. Of course I couldn't see through the window. But still chills ran down my spine. The whole hospital seemed to get dead silent. All of it except the E.K.G. monitor, which gave out a long flat beep that didn't stop'¦ and of course that meant that a flat line", Dannie said as a single tear dropped from his eye. He wiped it with the sleeve of his long sleeved black shirt. "I got up and started pounding on the door my hardest'¦but it was a metal door, so alls it did was make my fists bleed. I was crying, bleeding, and thinking all at the same time. A few minutes after I stopped the pounding, the receptionist came out with blood all over her white hospital outfit. She told me "You must be Dannie'¦ Your mom'¦", she took a minute to get the right words. "Your mom well she passed away'¦ I'm really sorry'¦ She kept on calling out for you'¦ She said something about her being sorry for loosing a job'¦ we weren't sure if she'd been just making up words or if it meant something". "Yeah It does mean something", I said, the words wouldn't quit come out all at once. She told me how it all happened. How when the surgeon was doing surgery a black widow dropped inside of her heart and took a bite'¦ The poison traveled fast because the heart pumped the blood that was infected throughout her body in the process of the circulating blood. By this time I was done trying to hold back the tears. They all came out just like it you held an opened can of soda upside down all the soda would come out", He finally finished.
He looked up and too his surprise some kids at another table where listening to him tell the story. "I'm really sorry", Alexis said. The haunting noise of the E.K.G. monitor came back into Dannie's head. He wiped a final tear from his eye. He looked down at his Black shoes. He saw black threaded stitches on his black pants. That reminded him of his mom even more. A ton of haunting memories came back to him just like ones conscience would if you killed some one. He looked up at the wall. The blue paint reminded him of the aquarium his family went to a few months before his dad and sister died. He remembered the blue water. And the blue water tank that had the shark that kept ramming it's head into the side of the building. And with each hit more and more blood stained the water like war scars. He remembered the Sea Horse exhibit. And how one of the tanks glass cracked open and all the water and Sea Horses inside of it spilled out onto the floor. His concentration broke to the sound of the school nurses voice, and the hand on his shoulder shaking him reverently. He looked up at the light fixtures on the ceiling. And blinked a few times, it was sort of like coming out of the movie theatres where you have to squint and blink a few times before your eyes finally get used to the light. Something wet on his shirt caught his attention. He looked at it, But it wasn't his shirt. It was a white and tight one "What-what happened?" Dannie asked, waiting to hear the sound of the school nurse. Instead it was the sound of a car moving and the sound of sirens. "Where am I?" He asked. "SHH", a voice he was unfamiliar of told him. "Hey this isn't funny! Where am I?" He asked again. He tried to move but was unsuccessful. He looked at his shirt again, that's when he realized what he was wearing. It was a straight jacket. "Where am I!?" He started to scream, and shake violently. To his surprise the stretcher that he was on moved quit freely. He bounced up and down back and forth. Than with all of his power he pushed the stretcher straight into the door. It slammed open, and he went rolling out into the open street where all he could see was pitch black darkness. He rolled over and the stretcher was on top of him. And it was amazingly heavy. "What are you going to do now?" He thought. "I don't know this is as far as my plan got'¦ if you have any suggestions please feel free to let me know". The tires of the vehicle that Dannie was in stopped so fast that it burnt rubber onto the cement. Dannie tried to get up but the stretcher was too heavy. "Hey you get back here!" Another unfamiliar voice called out. Shortly after he heard the voice he heard the footsteps of someone running toward him. The cement road was cold against his face. A hand grabbed his shoulder and lifted him up. The person laid the stretcher in the right position. So now Dannie was on top of it instead of it being on top of him. "This is the third time you've tried to break out on this trip alone'¦ They'll defiantly put you in the isolation'¦ Not that you wont be in isolation already but you wont even get to see the other patients'¦", The strange voice pointed out. "Let's get you back here in the van". For the first time he realized how cold he was. "That shot that I just gave you will make you start to feel things'¦ but it'll keep the voices and thoughts out of your head", the voice explained. The man that the voice belonged to dragged him back into the vehicle where he supposedly belonged. He could see again. It was just the darkness from outside is why he couldn't see'¦ That's all. Now that he was inside the van he could see the face of the man that had carried him back. But there wasn't enough time for him to see the whole face'¦ Just a glimpse of his face was all Dannie could spot. He also saw the metal wires that kept the window of the van nice and locked in. He closed the door and slid back into the drivers' seat. "See there's no use in breaking out. They'll always catch you", the first voice he heard in the van said. "Who-who are you?" Dannie asked curiously. "The names Mike", He said. "Where are we going?" Dannie asked. "Wow you're a slow one. You don't think the straight jacket and padded van tell you something? We're going to a mental institution. I've been to one before'¦ I broke out. But it looks as if they've caught me again", Mike said. "I'm being imprisoned inside a mental institution? Why am I going there?" Dannie asked. "Well most likely because you're mental, but I'm not too sure. We picked you up from a hospital. The driver said something about a concussion. He said you where bashing your head into a metal table at a school or something. Yelling stuff like "Mommy mommy look at the shark", the doctor wasn't too sure what was going on. They said that you where inside the hospital for two weeks. They were trying to figure out what to do with you", Mike explained. "I don't remember any of that", Dannie replied. "Yeah those pills have some nasty side effects. But don't worry you'll get used to them after a while. We're almost there, so when we get there you'd better be on your best behavior or else they will put you in isolation", Mike threatened Dannie. "What will they do to me?" Dannie asked curiously. "Well it depends. To some of the patients they use them as test subjects, to try and see if they can cure their disease'¦ most of the time it doesn't work", Mike said. Dannie gulped. Lying down in the warm padded van, He tried his hardest just to remember what he did at the school. Had Alexis seen him do it? All he could remember was black and red. The red he saw was probably being blood. And the black he remembered was probably the passed out effect. But if he had passed out how could he have seen red? None of it made sense to poor Dannie. So he just laid still. "Or they might just keep you in there until another alternative comes up. Or they'll keep you until you get better", Mike said, and the word better caught Dannie's mind by surprise. "See there is hope. Mike said better and that means that I can get better", Dannie thought. "But there isn't a 100% chance of you getting better. Hey there isn't even a 50% chance of you getting better. But you can prove them wrong. I got better and they didn't belief me, they said my disease was incurable. But I was better, so I did what I had to do. And that was to run. But they caught up to me before I could get out of the country. They put homing devices on your ankle so they can find you until you get out of the country. But once you get out of the country they don't care, you won't be there responsibility", Mike exclaimed. "Now be quiet we're have arrived", Mike said. "I'll talk to you once we get past security and once we've get settled in", Mike said. Dannie just laid back and enjoyed the soft ride. The light from the light posts outside comforted Dannie in a weird insecure way. He laid and looked out the back window, that had metal wire running through between the two sheets of glass so that breaking out would be nearly impossible. But nearly was the key word. Two people in black clothes walked up to the back of the van and opened it. It was impossible to tell if they where male or female because they where wearing dark green gas masks. "What's with the gas masks?" Dannie whispered to Mike. "They put this stuff in the air to keep it so we stay calm'¦ But the air doesn't always work. On Saturdays they don't put it in because their budget wont let them", Mike said with a quick smile. "Come here you", One of the black gas masked men said while he put a finger up gesturing Dannie to come with him. Dannie obeyed silently. When he got out in front of the van he saw a giant gate and next to it was a huge fence. The colors where hard to make out but Dannie was sure that it was black. He was already working out a plan for his escape. The men in the dark clothes led them up past the gate and into a court yard with grass. The sun wasn't out but still they could see perfectly because of all of the high powered lights. There was grass on the court yard and a pathway of cement sidewalk. At the end of the pathway was the weirdest building Dannie had ever seen. It had windows, and three floors (not including basements and the top helipad). Mike was behind Dannie and one of the guards was behind Mike, the other was in front of Dannie. The doors opened when the guard in front put his badge in front of a scanner. They walked inside. And it was amazingly quiet. The only noise was that of the foot steps of Dannie, Mike, and the two guards. It was a large hallway with doors on both side with numbers, and at the end where stairs. The walls where painted white. The doors along both sides of the hall where white. The consisted only of white tiles. They turned and went inside a room that had a large glass-metal wired window. This was a main office. A lady sat at a desk that was behind a wall with a metal wire window, which had a hole that she could pass papers through. She wasn't wearing a gas mask. "We have a runner that just came from a hospital", one of the guards announced as he took off his gas mask. He was a white man with semi-long black hair. The other one took his mask off also. He was pale white. And his hair was brown. Dannie struggled in his straight jacket. The receptionist and the two guards looked at him. "The driver said that this on has been a problem since they first picked him up'¦ But I don't blame him; I mean what would you do if you just woke up from anesthesia on an ambulance on its way to a mental hospital?" the guard with the semi-long black hair asked. "That's true'¦ but still, he'll need to calm down. so you here that? calm down or we'll have to drug you up and than you'll feel even worse", The other guard exclaimed. "Well I think it's about time we get them a room to stay in. It wouldn't be a problem if they stayed in the same room would it?" The receptionist asked. "Well I don't see why not'¦ Well what ever we're going to do we'd better do it quickly, they look like they need the sleep", One of the guards said. "Well than take those two up to Green Pod room 117. They'll stay there for now," the receptionist explained. "C'mon we're going," the guard said. With that said they left the office and into the lobby. Mike pointed to the air vents with his eyes. Dannie looked up to see that the screws where off. Doors led down the hall and had black numbers representing the room number that they led to. On each door was a window with metal wires just like inside the van. Behind them was darkness. Some of the lights went out. But it was still light enough to see where they where going. They walked down the hall. At the end they went through a door into another large lobby. After they turned into the lobby they went into an elevator. The elevator doors closed and the lights that where behind the buttons turned on. One of the guards pressed the button and the elevator zoomed into action like a roller coaster ride. A few floors later they made their stop. They exited the elevator into a lobby just like the one they entered the elevator. This one had cameras every where. They where led out of the room by the guards; Down another hall exactly like the one from down stairs. Finally they reached their room. The room was sort of narrow and sort of tall. 117 where clearly the letters on the door to Dannie's new prison. Against the back wall were two beds with room in between each of them. Tiny dressers with lamps on top where between the bed and the walls. The guards led them in and took off their straight jackets. After they where done taking off the jackets they left the room and locked the door. "Aw it feels so good to be able to move my arms freely," Dannie exclaimed. "Yeh'¦ I'm sorry to say it but'¦ we can't brake out tomorrow'¦" Mike exclaimed. "WHY CAN'T WE??????" Dannie asked being a little confused and scared. Dannie was scared of being locked inside a mental hospital. He was scared that his whole life would change, and he was scared that Alexis thought of him as suicidal. "Well first of all we can't leave because, they're spraying for mice. Second of all tomorrow is the best meal of the month. I mean the food is usually good but it's even better when it's your first day here", Mike replied. "Wait so you're saying the only reason for me to stay is because the food is good'¦ Not to mention that we can't get out yet," disputed Dannie. Dannie hoped that his new friend Mike would say something like some time soon, or tomorrow. "I really wish I could say something like some time soon or tomorrow'¦. But I cannot unless you don't mind me lying to you," Mike answered oppositely to Dannie's hopes. It was tough enough standing down inside an unusual place, and being away from his friend and distant family. But hearing Mike imply that he wouldn't be getting out of the asylum any time soon just made everything worse by a lot. Dannie felt that the only thing left to do was to either commit suicide (which was virtually impossible inside the safety of the asylum), OR go to sleep and cope with his problems. So he chose he's only available option. Which was to sleep; So he threw his body onto the soft padding of the bed. Slowly he drifted to deep sleep. But his sleep was infected with thoughts and questions. And I must say that when your sleep is infected with thoughts and questions it erases the whole meaning of sleep. The lights where automatically shut off at midnight. Even thought there was a light switch on the wall they made it so that power was saved so when people forget to turn off the lights it automatically does it on its own. After a long night filled with tossing and turning Dannie awoke to the sound of birds chirping and a room filled with sun light. He looked over at his friend Mike who was lying down staring at the ceiling. The walls of the room that he was in where plain white, without even the slightest bit of gray. "Hey kid?" Mike asked. "You hungry?" he continued looking over at Dannie. "Yeh", Dannie replied. They got up and walked towards the door. When they approached a voice came onto a speaker that hung on the wall just next to the door. "Good morning", a ladies voice said in a soft tone. "Good morning!" Mike replied, being as polite as possible. "What can I do for you this morning?" She asked. "Well we thought it'd be okay if we went and got some food", Mike said still being polite. "Of course," she replied. There was a faint buzzing sound and the door clicked open. Outside their room was the big hall they where on some time earlier. The stepped out of their room like escaping from an asylum room, which made sense in a weird twisted way. Down the hall they walked in a nice steady pace. Others where going out to the cafeteria. They took a left at the end of the hall. After they took a left they approached a door with the word "Cafeteria" written on it in bold black ink. They pressed on the handle of the door which opened fairly easy and entered a large room with tables and benches everywhere. Cameras monitored the room due to state law. Against the far wall of the cafeteria stood food stands patiently. People lined up next to the stands in single file, waiting to be served their morning meal. There weren't too many people in line. Dannie followed Mike to the end of one of the lines. A quick glance around the cafeteria and a step forward in line only took a moment. A few more of those and he was already being served pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The next step brought him up to a lady serving orange juice. He took a paper cup appreciatively. Then he and Mike left the line and sat down at a table with empty chairs. Steam arose off the fatty breakfast. The meal was the type that could give an obese man a heart attack. But fatty or not he still took a bite and cherished the flavor in his mouth for as long as he could. The room was gigantic with a second floor that had a large glass wall that let the people on the second floor see the people down in the cafeteria. The room echoed with parts of conversations. In the entire room not one single window showed the outside world. After his first bit Dannie realized two things. One thing was that the food was delicious, just as Mike predicted. The other thing was that he was unbelievably hungry since the last thing he knew for sure he ate was the breakfast at his house supposedly a few weeks ago. He kept on peering around the room at different people who where minding their own business. A few things caught his attention. One of them was a girl who had been strapped inside a straight jacket and was being fed by a man in a black T shirt with the word "staff" written on it in big white Ariel letters. Another thing that caught his attention was a man with a black metal mask locked onto his head. His food had been in his stomach for a few minutes before he decided to get up and walk around. Mike was still in the process of devouring his second plate. Dannie strolled around not really going anywhere or doing anything except stretching his legs. Mike's body wasn't slim and slender like Dannie's which is just a fancy way of saying that Mike is fat and can eat a lot of food. Dannie stopped walking when he reached the other side of the room. A girl sat alone in front of him at a table. Her back was facing Dannie's face. She was wearing a long black sleeved shirt, and a black and dark purple skirt. She hummed softly to keep herself some company. She took a bite of food off of her plate. Dannie stood right next to her. "Do you mind if I sit here?" Dannie said gesturing to the empty chair in across from hers. "Not at all," she replied. He sat down and she got up, her brown hair following behind her. She took her tray and dumped it into the garbage can. "Now look what you've done! You've scared her away from her own table!" Dannie thought. Then she sat back down, and a sigh of relief escaped Dannie's chest with enough force that he gave out a little whimper. He looked into her green eyes. "I'm kinda new here," Dannie said. "Yeh I know'¦ they brought you into the room across the hall from mine. You guys made quit a lot of noise," She said. Dannie thought for a moment. Had they been making a lot of noise? He could scarcely remember last night. "I'm sorry if we awoke you," Dannie tried to say apologetically, but it was a fake apology because he didn't even know if they had been making noise let alone enough to awake a person sleeping behind the thick metal doors of the asylum. "It's ok'¦ I was awake already," She replied. "I like your eyes," Dannie mumbled. "Thank you!" she replied. "So any way my name is Ami ," She continued. "I'm Dannie," Dannie said. "Nice to meet you Dannie'¦ So how old are you? I'm 13," Ami asked. "I'm 14", Dannie replied. "Come with me I need to talk to you about something serious," Ami asked. "What could she want to talk about that's serious?" Dannie thought. Ami got up and Dannie followed. She led him out of the cafeteria and into one of the corridors. After they where some way down the hall she looked behind them. Then back to in front, then to Dannie. No one was around. "Let's leave?" Ami asked. "Like go?" Dannie replied in question form. "Yeh'¦ Runaway," Ami answered. "Of course," Dannie said. "Follow me quickly'¦ We'll most likely be followed," Ami stated. They rushed down the hallway as quickly and quietly as possible. As they crept down the halls they where being monitored be several cameras as they snuck down the hall. But by the time the people who where watching the cameras that where watching the teens could get there in time they would be long gone. They followed the hall until it took them to a screeching halt. It was the end of the main corridor. "This way," Ami said as she led him behind a tall door and into a really narrow hallway that seemed to go on for only a few feet and then turn. They closed the door behind them so as not to make it suspicious that a few mental hospital patients where acting on their plots to escape. They followed the hall past the turn and through another door which led them into a medium sized janitor's closet. The room was filled with brooms, rakes, shovels, mops, buckets, and a few janitor vests. Against the side wall was a ladder that led up to the ceiling and out a small window. "Oh crap'¦ I forgot all about Mike," Dannie said as sweat droplets rushed down his fore head and onto his black shirt. "Who's Mike?" Ami asked puzzled. "The man that I was brought here with'¦" Dannie replied as he pushed his black hair out of his eyes. "I'm not sure we have enough time," Ami said struggling to catch her breath from all the running they had been doing. "Well I need to get him'¦ He's the only other person besides you that I can trust right now'¦" Dannie replied as he started his way back through the incredibly small hallway that led from the end of the main corridor to the medium sized janitor's closet. He got through it in a flash, in fact by the time he was to the tall door he barely realized he was finished with the little segment of hall way he had just walked. He opened the door hesitantly with Ami right behind him. He poked his head out of the door only to be shot at with a tranquilizing gun. It missed by only inches. He got a quick glimpse of the shooter and could barely breathe. Ami had to pull him back inside the tiny hall way so he wouldn't get shot at this time and actually hit. She slammed the door and bolted the lock shut. Dannie's mind was running on high speed and was in danger of a total break down. He lost control of his body and before he knew it he was already inside the janitor's closet picking up a brand new titanium shovel. He was moving but he wasn't in control of his actions. Ami had been trying to stop him and practically gave up as he reached the bolted door. He unlocked it and slid it open. As he was opening the wooden door he raised the shovel to shoulder height. Out side the door stood Mike with his Tranquilizer gun pointed at the ground. Dannie raised the shovel as high as he could reach and sent it crashing down against Mike's skull crushing it into only pieces of bone, skin, brains and the remains of what used to be two eye balls inside their sockets, and a nose. Mike's body instantly dropped to the floor with out a second in between the shovel hitting and body falling. Mike's carcass lay on the ground in utter lifelessness. Blood streamed out of his skull and onto the tile. Dannie stood there for a moment barely realizing what he had just done. A badge fell out of his hand representing his brother hood with the STAFF of the asylum. The whole asylum grew eerily silent. Dannie took the shovel in his hands and started bashing the skull deeper into the tile. Blood and brains where flying all over the place dousing Dannie's clothes. Ami turned away in fear. He kept swinging and swinging until tile broke and revealed the cement that lay underneath. By the time Dannie was done with the remains of Mike it was impossible to tell who the blood, brains and bone belonged to with out a dentist. Ami was crying softly when Dannie came out of his zone. He tried to comfort her but after seeing something like that happen it's pretty hard for some one to be comforted so easily. They went back to the janitor's closet and locked the door behind themselves. They picked up a pair of sweat pants and Ami put one on. Then she led the way up the ladder and opened up the latch to the window. She crawled out and was followed by Dannie, who was still covered with blood and brains, and other bodily items. The morning air was clear and warm against Ami's soft cheeks. After Dannie got through the window he closed it behind himself. "I can't believe Mike was working with them the whole time!" Dannie exclaimed. "I can't believe you did that to him," Ami replied. "I really didn't mean to'¦ I really don't know what came over me," Dannie argued back. "Well what ever it was I'm glad it's gone now," Ami said back. "Now we need to find a way to get down from here," Ami said. "Look over there," Dannie said pointing to a small ledge that had grass on the earth below. They walked over to the edge and looked off, being careful not to fall off and break a bone or two, or maybe even three. "This looks safe to jump down with out breaking a bone," Ami said. "Yeh and it's close to the gate which makes it more convenient," Dannie pointed out. Dannie knelt down and hung off the edge, his body hanging limp below. Then he took a drop. He landed on the grass with a small thumping noise. "It's safe'¦ You won't get hurt," Dannie called up to Ami who was already repeating Dannie's process. She fell right next to Dannie who was standing next to her to make sure she didn't get hurt. Her hair bobbled behind her. "You make it okay?" Dannie asked politely. "Yup," She replied. "Good. Let's head over to the gate," Dannie said. They started walking towards the gate. The booth that housed the man who was in charge of keeping track of who came and who left was empty. The gate was opened enough for them to fit easily through with out too much of a problem. Down the road where the city met the horizon a blazing fire torched a business building. They followed the road keeping aware of if anyone was behind them. No one had even gotten the road they where traveling on. They got half way down the road when a white van with no windows pulled onto the road coming from the asylum's direction. They walked to the side of the road and hid behind a few apple trees. The van passed without even noticing them. "Want an apple?" Dannie asked. "Sure," Ami replied. Dannie reached his long arm into the tree and pulled out two apples. He handed one to Ami and then took a bite from his own. They continued walking through the trees. They approached the city and realized the fire had spread and that there where no fire men trying to put out the blazing fire. In fact not only where there no fire men but there where no living people alive either. The streets where occupied with dead bodies. Some cars where flipped others where left with their motors running. "I wonder what happened!" Ami said in shock and terror. "Me to," Dannie repeated softly in his mind. He put his arm around Ami's shoulder to comfort her. She didn't refuse it. Dannie's eyes took a moment to adjust to the darkness that surrounded him. After a few seconds of eye adjustments he found himself standing and banging his head against the white wall. "Harder!!!! BANG YOUR HEAD AS HARD AS YOU CAN!!!!!! MAKE IT SO THE WALLS WILL TURN DARK BLOOD RED!!!!!!!!! STAIN THE WALLS!!!!!!!" a voice inside his head taunted. After hours of bashing his fifty year old skull into the wall Dannie found a nice place on the floor to lay in the puddle of his won blood. The cool padded floor made the perfect bed for Dannie. His straight jacket hugging him strongly as he lay on the asylum's stained red padding. It was perfectly quiet. Empty words rang through his mind. He drifted off to sleep knowing that he would never wake again. Being inside the asylum only made him crazier. Everyday he was forced to sit (or stand) and stair at the white padding on the walls, that imprisoned him inside his mental hell. Now finally he had gotten revenge on the thirty-three year old whiteness'¦ For once Dannie saw change as a thing of the present'¦ For once the insane voices inside his head stopped haunting him'¦ For once he wasn't crazy'¦ For once it seemed as though there never where voices inside his head and only a mere figment of his over active imagination'¦ For once he could rest internally in peace'¦For once he was dead'¦
