Sweet Song
There once was a girl.
There was a girl.
She was born and she lived and she loved.
Oh, how she loved.
She cried once in a while, and she always wiped the tears away to smile again.
Smile again.
Once or twice she met a boy.
A boy.
He tried to love her the way that she loved.
How she loved.
He tried to bring her sweet, sweet smile to the surface, where he could see it always.
Then he tried.
He tried.
And sometimes he couldn't.
And sometimes you just can't.
Sweet, sweet, sweet.
Sweet girl.
And girls, they grow up.
Like stalks of corn, straight up so fast.
And hopes, they climb to the sky.
Boys, they try to be that tall.
Stretch and break.
They break.
And broken hearts, they bleed.
And broken hearts, they bleed.
Sweet, sweet, sweet.
Sweet girl.
There once was a girl.
There was a girl.
And a boy, he loved her like the sun.
He drank her in.
He soaked her up.
But she couldn't be all his, 'cause she's a girl as tall as corn.
She couldn't be all his.
Sometimes you just can't.
Sweet, sweet, sweet.
Sweet girl.
