One Good Soul

Understanding circumstance
I've grown acutely accustomed
Missing the point of yesterday
And drowning in tomorrow's thoughts

Future lies breed truth
Alcohol soothes my mind
Open wounds ache with envy
While peroxide cleanses me

Deaf ears speak of silence
I hear them calling me home
Falling into euphoric sanctions
Away from darkness and strife

Nine millimeter holes fill my soul
Shining light into this vacant room
Only a bed and six empty bottles
Dreaming only of death and solitude

Pull the covers over my head
Closing a blind eye to hide alone
My demons stand around me all the while
Ready to haunt me with one mistake

Her face is a welcome change
From all that stands ugly
Not only in my world unchanging
But to humanity...She is one good soul

Beautiful imagery, lots of great metaphors. Gives a lot for the reader to think about.

What's this good souls name? Does she have a hot sister? ;)

The first stanza gives me the impression that our totured soul is failing to learn from his/her mistakes and is dwelling on things that are beyond control. It stands alone very well.

The rest follows with equal clarity except the nine millimeter holes image. I get the idea. It's a reference to spiritual wounds by a weapon prevelent in our time. But it is the most difficult to decipher of all your imagry.

Just a creative suggestion. You could write this poem over again using all the same words but cutting out alot of the "My's" "the's" and "but's". Just an idea of course. It may or may not work towards what you were going for. But it could be interesting.

Nice poem.
