Dragons World-4
Chapter 4
When Tempest returned to the lair Draconas was cleaning himself in the river, she set down beside the bank and called out 'Draconas, I have discovered news of the human nature' Draconas walked out of the water and curled up on a rock to dry himself off 'alright tell me what you have found' Draconas stated. 'Humans are afraid of us not because of our looks, but because they fear us due to knowing nothing about us, they believe we will ravage their livestock, steal virgins, and so on; all because of these stories people have written about us for centuries' Tempest stated. 'Stories of dragons, tell me one my love, I would be very interested to know what these humans think of us' Draconas told Tempest, 'Alright I will according to a legend of the Middle Ages there once lived in a distant pagan land a dreadful monster called a dragon. The flapping of its great batlike wings could be heard for miles around. With a single blow of its terrible claws it could fall an ox. From its nostrils came clouds of smoke and flame that brought death to those who breathed it. Every year a young virgin girl was offered to prevent it from rushing upon the city and destroying all the inhabitants. One year the lot fell to Princess Sara, daughter of the king. She was saved by the valiant St. George, youngest and bravest of the seven champions of Christendom. With his sword, he wounded the monster so badly that the princess was able to put her sash about its head and lead it to the marketplace of the town. There St. George slew it with one blow. Won over to the Christian faith by this deed of its champion, the people were baptized' Tempest finally finished one of the stories that Jason told her. 'That is absurd no metal on earth or anywhere can cut through a dragons hide without the beast lifting up his scales and showing his soft flesh beneath the armor and what dragon would ever be willing to do that?' Draconas stated while laughing, 'you think I don't know this, that is why I am informing you that the humans have no knowledge of our kind so whatever we do will be a surprise to them, even our size would shock them to death alone!' Tempest snarled, angered by her mate's denouncing judgment of her newfound knowledge, she showed her anger the way every dragon would by stomping her back legs in succession with great force; accompanied by a long, low guttural tone. Draconas looked at his mate and bowed while spreading his wings until he was fully to the ground. 'I am sorry dear I did not mean to offend you, I am just appalled at how little knowledge humans actually have and yet they managed to kill three of our draclings, they must be hiding something' Draconas stated. 'Alright my love, I will try harder to understand humans, farewell for now' Tempest told Draconas then spread her wings and headed back to Jason's house. Draconas slid off the rock and into the water then he swam until he found the others of the Evil Breed, Draconas shook himself off as he exited the water. 'Come now, I have news from the females, they have discovered that humans are brain dead when it comes to dragons, so we have the advantage, but there is something mysterious about them' Draconas calmly stated. The other dragons looked at him then nodded their understanding of the discovery. Obsidian and Maelstrom stepped forward and asked Draconas a question 'If humans are brain dead how can they capture a dragon?' Draconas flared up then calmed himself down enough to say 'That is why they are mysterious' then Draconas opened his magnificent wings and flew back to the lair. Obsidian looked at Maelstrom and they both flew out to the forest in order to locate something to satisfy their hunger. Two hours later they had located a doe with a fawn, which was barely enough meat for a single dragon let alone two. The brothers fell the two deer and ate their shares then they took to the sky looking for more meat, three hours passed and still nothing was spotted then they came upon a dragon hen sitting on eggs, now normally dragons do not eat their kind, but eggs are an exception to some and they are quite filling. The brothers looked to one another and came up with a plan to get the hen off her nest; Obsidian flew down and landed then crept behind the waiting hen and sent a burst of black thorns within two inches of the hen's exposed neck. The hen reared up, roaring her distress and outrage of being disturbed, all at once 'GET AWAY FROM MY DRACLINGS, YOU BASTARDS!' An answering bellow came from a short distance away 'DO NOT WORRY DEAR, I AM ONLY A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY; IF YOU HURT MY MATE IN ANY WAY I WILL RIP YOU FROM LIMB TO LIMB!, the hen's mate was warned and on his way to protect his family, the brothers burst from the woods and surrounded the hen. 'You have four beautiful eggs, just give us each one and we will leave the other two along with you and your mate alone' Maelstrom sneered, the hen growled her warning then stated 'Like hell, I will die before I willingly give you any of my eggs'. A screech filled the air as her mate swooped down to her side, the sun glared off his scales and he snarled his challenge to the intruders. 'Judean? This hen is yours? Such a pity that the beauty of her is wasted on a follower like you' Obsidian said, curling his lip up, 'you should of killed us when you had the chance now you will not be so lucky' Maelstrom said. Judean stopped as he remembered just who those voices belonged to. 'Solaris take to the sky, carry as many eggs as you can and leave, I will handle them' Judean said; Solaris shook her head, 'I will not. We all survive or we all perish. That is our destiny. We will not be separated. I will not have it' Solaris cried. Judean looked adoringly at his mate and knew she was telling the truth that she would fight by his side or die trying. Solaris looked to her mate and then to the sun and began to chant the ancient words to call upon her power 'solar strength of those long ago, your descendant am I, trust me whole, grant me the power to destroy these woes' the brothers looked to one another and backed up a few steps realizing the element in which this dragonelle originated, a rare order of the olden times, the sun bearers. This strong breed was born from a meteor sent from the sun and was a powerful foe to reckon with; Obsidian and Maelstrom were worried, Judean had defeated them and could have killed them and he was a diluted breed of sun bearers, his grandfather had been a pure sun bearer, but his grandmother was a fire red. The brothers screeched as a burst of light came from Solaris's throat heading straight for them, the beam hit Maelstrom on the tip of his wings making him slightly off balanced, but still able to fly; the males took to the sky and fled from the nest site. Obsidian and Maelstrom returned to the Evil breed's territory and landed next to Inferno, 'you guys missed the meal Draconas brought back, we had bear, and there are leftovers if you want them'. The males snarled at Inferno and the brothers went to the sleeping grounds found the spot they used the night before and laid down for the night, Obsidian drifted off to sleep while Maelstrom tended to his wounds. Draconas lifted his head from his resting place that guarded Tempest and his lair; he looked to the stars and wondered to himself I wonder what Tempest is doing? Then he drifted off into a slumbered state.
