Obsidian Core

here roots
a sable soul
in razor shards
of splintered onyx
shredding deep
bleeding dark
flowing hemlock

your passionate
kiss or caress
can cast nothing
but a thin coat
over this cool
venomous marrow

it drips desire
from the maws
of demons
delusional lures
of a Lorelei *
to a jet
black spiral
in abysmal
surrender

go woman
gather your wits
seal the door
and leave
starless midnight
to the wolves.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Lorelei comes from a famous poem... 'The Lorelei'.. a mermaid of sorts that lures fishermen to throw themselves in the water and drown.

"...from the maws of demons"...a very powerful phrase in and of itself. The imagery here is so clear as to be hypnotic. The rhythm helps with the entire theme and guides the reader through to the end, and leaves him/her wanting so much more. Bravo!

Beauty incarnate, this piece captures that feeling of lust and rejection all at once.
