Without Thinking

What comes to my mind when I hear the words?

Money- need, survival, miser

In this world, even a soul can be bought

Work- obligation, responsibility, passion

Seen but not recognized, just a "have to" thing

Family- complicated, chaos, indifferent

Exists but at times you need to close the door

Gamble- risk, plunge, all stakes

Bet that at the end, you'll die a loser death

Wisdom- brain, study, apply

When you say you don't know anything, wise you are

Sex- tension, lust, climax

You can have it anytime if you're not bothered if you don't know his name

Anger- fury, revenge, vendetta

My favorite adrenaline shot minus bloodspill

Redemption- forgiveness, change, rise again

I did for a lot of people, they forgot me though

Empathy- feel, know, aware

I have a huge supply, useless in a cruel world

Deceit- tricks, idiots, harm

Blinded by my foolish and naive perception

Lover- sex, cuddle, dream with

Uncertain but the time is still worth it

Danger- wild, anxiety, iressistable

Obsessed with it, played with fire and water

Dreams- laughed at, disbelief, just for fools

But I dare say no, I will make them come true

Persistence- stubbornness, drive, will

It is my middle name, my trademark

Failure- label, stone cast upon me

Break the label, throw back a boulder

Now choose one word and list down 5 things that comes to your mind. Ready?

OK, here goes:

HERO

1. Those who risk their life in service. Firefighters, police, army, navy, air force, coast guard, marines, Jack Bauer, etc.

2. Moms. Not just "mothers" -- I mean good, REAL moms. They do a spectacular service to the entire world, by raising better people.

3. Good Teachers. For similar reasons as moms, the importance of good teachers (especially K-12) cannot be overstated.

4. King Arthur/King David/King Leonidas/you get the idea. The great warrior kings of history/legend are the ultimate expression of what a man should try to be. They are individual warriors for a just cause, but also show compassion, leadership, and wisdom to the people that they rule. Also, unlike other great leaders such as Abraham Lincoln or Winston Churchill, they fight ALONGSIDE their soldiers. That's not meant to be a political commentary, by the way. It would have been totally inappropriate for Lincoln or Churchill (or Bush, for that matter) to actually fight in the conflicts into which they sent their nations' armies. The leaders of the past two centuries are in a completely different situation than the warrior kings of old. To this day, however, that ancient kind of hero is easy to admire.

What number am I on? Oh, right.

5. The last thing that comes to mind when I think of the word "hero" is the last thing that comes to most people's minds -- Us. Everyone. Every day, people do little things for each other that go completely unnoticed. That is exactly what makes those things heroic. They are good deeds done not for "brownie points" or with any desire to receive credit for them. An unrecognized good deed is perhaps the most heroic thing of all.
