Spider web

It was dark, so, so dark. I couldn't even tell if my eyes were open or not. Where was I? What happened? My head hurt like a bitch. I tried to move but I was restricted. It was so quiet, what was going on? Think man!

Then it dawned on me. I was in a coma and my arms and legs were tied to the hospital bed for my own protection. My mind was awake but my body was in a coma, motionless.

An image flashed in my mind ' a spade, smashing into my face. What was that all about? Who was swinging that spade and what was he doing with it before he hit me.

I tried to move my right hand again and this time it moved a bit more. If only I could get my hand into my pocket and fish out my Maglite. I tried to lift my foot but it only went up about two inches. My head could only move a similar distance. Why did they tie these damn straps so tight?

I tried to think about the spade again. And then it all came back in a flood and panic set in. I thrashed about and managed to get my hand into my pocket. I got the torch out and shone it towards my head.

I looked back into the corner of the coffin and saw a small spider. I'd often thought I'd like to watch a spider spin his web from start to finish; now I had little choice.
