Excoriation

He lays in shifting dunes
His eyes, they drip with sand
His mouth, is dry and pure
His flesh, a martyr

And the landscape is on fast forward

The garden was dug up yesterday
hardly jointed fences, beaten
frightened peonies turned to
reservoir mist
infected air
song silent

He stares up into forgetfulness
He stares and tries to touch the silk
That's turned dirt-gray
Above his head

It races, a foil to a heart which slows

The streets are screaming silence
Reprising Rome
all roads lead to the empire
So Goliath fell, followed by David
Peter, Paul, Mary, Joseph, Jesus
These names are unknown here, NOW

HE
Explodes
thinks
Screams
that
Regrets
he
Lies
is
Suffers
alone
Denies
but
Grieves
he
Yeilds
took in
Surrenders
the
Loses
whole
Closes
population
Falls
in
Still
his
Finally
lungs
Forgets
when he returned

I enjoyed the visionary feel of this poem and the catharsis that the images lead to. My favorite was "landscape is on fast forward."

I'm really glad you got it =) I've never tried anything like that before and I wasn't sure if it was going to work.

Amazing!

The visuals in this poem are powerful and the allusions to history and religion work well. But, it was the last stanza that appealed to me the most, and it doesn't take more than three lines into it to realize what is being said and what needs to be read.

Again, powerful and innovative. Great poem.
