Tonight

In honor of my beloved's Birthday...

Tonight is special
Because you were born

It is the day you came to be
The twenty years that I've known you
Is not long enough to me

It seems as just yesterday
We were young and oh, so free

It seems as just yesterday
Our destinies were yet to be

I still feel young and lovely
I still think we've destinies untold
I'm glad that in growing old I'll have
Just one you to hold

Tonight is special
Because you were born
It is the day you came to be

Tonight is special
Because of our love
It is a celebration of family

I see this as a verse to a child (even if the child just turned twenty)

As far as the poem? I am a same number of lines per stanza person. It makes the verses choppy if not metered and syllabicated the same but many people write free verse that isn't metered or the same number of syllables. I has a positive genre; I just think the flow would be smoother if the stanzas were the same and words weren't repeated so much.

I tend to try to look at the positives in life--because we are bombarded by the negatives every day. The media thrives on negative news. Feel free to take my "sweet" writings and add them to your tea for taste. And don't forget to smile as you enjoy the flavor!! Thanks for the thoughts

This is a very nice poem. It rhymes well but I must agree with Kerosene. Thanks for sharing a good read.
