Empty Glass

Sitting
Surrounded by nothing
But me
And an empty glass
That never contained my drink
Confirms my suspicion
That what I thought
Would be everything
Has just disappeared into
The realms of nothing

*** This is an old piece I found amongst some paperwork I sorted out a few weeks ago ***

Another extended metaphor! You seem to work well with these sort of poems, I can get a real good sense of feeling and emotion from them. Only line that feels a bit out of synch is 'Would be everything'. Feels like it might be a little over-extended. Most of the words in this poem are so specific that 'everything' seems to reach a bit too far. Maybe try and find what the voice is missing in the moment of the poem, what's gone that makes this empty glass so significant, and use that for a more concrete image we readers can really latch onto. Totally just an opinion though, and an entirely unprofessional one at that!

Happy Writings.
