barricade
Barricade
There is something between us and the world
Its like a barricade between
The house and the curb or the hedge
Something created by the army core of engineers
What do we keep behind the line in the sand?
Behind these doors
There are beatings with open hands
Or fists or worse-
Banal sarcastic words
We create dreams and nightmares behind a soviet block
What is it that we keep out?
We keep out busses and cars and juvenile delinquents
We keep out the poor and the hungry and the needy
We keep out the pompous, the hipocrates, the greedy
We keep out republicans and democrats and catholics
And protestants
We keep out ourselves
Sequestered in our comedic inferno
We think we escape, we find a sanctuary. . .of darkness
No. . .no its all the same -ineffable
Just a mass of beings continuing war
The only difference , depending on where it happens,
Is the amount of lies told about it.

Michael this is a great piece. You have managed to spill a bucket of truth in 160 words and the last stanza stitched it together very nicely. " No. . .no its all the same -ineffable
Just a mass of beings continuing war
The only difference , depending on where it happens,
Is the amount of lies told about it." |
