winter elves
That I might not wish a second try
I close my eyes and hope
You leave.
Smiles of sand slow to come
Fade to dust much fainter
Than iron memory
I wish for more, deserve less
In winter lies the forest
Where the jealous elves prick our heels
And there I walk alone
Among the lost I am queen
Though no one bows
I watch my reflection
Deep in your black-pooled eyes
You should feel me
Splashing in the ripples
Can you not recall those nights?
Summer rain beat upon our heads
Warm and angry thunder trembled in our souls
Lightning plunged the world into icy flame
Akin to our passion.
We were afraid
Of nothing
Now smiles have faded to dust
Fainter than memory
The leaves have blazed and fallen in glorious death
Winter stalks the lost
In the deep of darkness
Silent on the newborn snow
There walk the jealous elves
