Last Rose of Summer

How do people deny happiness,
When it comes knocking on their doors?
Are they frightened that the door will slam shut?
As if it were all just a cruel joke?
Friends, people who make one another laugh and smile,
Who would ever want to be the last rose of summer,
The last one to survive?
It gives up it's strength so that it might die,
Near it's friends death bed it's lonely stem lies.

Basically, it just means that to have friends you have to get close to people and having relationships makes you happy. You can walk through the doors of life or just wait wondering of they will slam shut. But eventually you have to walk through the whole house out into the garden... and that is where it ends? Will you be the last rose of summer without any companions left in the garden?

The words are......pretty. But, I don't really get it. It seems like you jumped from one topic to another and you lost me in the transition.

This is really cute, I love how it gives a lot to think about while remaining brief. The last few lines seem really deep. This is a good read :]
