MAGIC Chapter 12
Trevor's mother wasn't really fat, but she was chunky. She always seemed to be smiling and her eyes sparkled. Melissa felt genuinely welcome around her. She'd made cookies, in spite of the heat, and Mel and Trevor were treated to a delicious snack of fresh cookies and cool milk.
"Mom spoils me." Trevor was candid and open about his relationship with his family.
"Yes, I'm afraid we never denied our baby anything. He's the last so both his father and I put aside the old rule about spoiling kids." She kissed him on the cheek and Mel thought it was pretty cool that he didn't seem embarassed at the affection his Mom showed for him.
"Well, somehow he seems to have turned into a pretty nice guy," Mel said with a smile.
"I think so too," his mother smiled. "We're proud of him.
But how did school go today Melissa? Did those boys give you any trouble, Dear?"
"No, not really. They were still gross and everything but mainly to Caroline Jones. Since my friend Selena joined the class, we sort of team up to support each other. Caroline was crying today though!"
"It's too bad they couldn't place that girl in a class where her special needs could be addressed more fully. If they think that it takes too much tax money to educate the slow learners properly, wait till they have to support them and their illegitimate children all their lives."
Melissa felt very grown up to have Mrs. Moore talk to her like this, as if she were one of her adult friends instead of a little girl who'd come over to fool around with her son.
