Another Stair
Another Stair
-Kali Johns
Outside the moon is shining
Another day is done
The mend have finished mining
With the setting of the sun.
The young girl, in her lonely bed
Weeps silently for the boy she once knew
The boy they say is now dead.
Their love will remain true.
She thinks of times now gone,
Of summers long since past
Of waking together at dawn
Of the time they were together last.
Just yesterday he was there
Swimming in the lake,
Laughing in the midday air.
She tries hard not to forsake.
It's raining again
Like it did on their wedding day.
Their chance to begin
Has now been cast away.
They call her a widow now.
What a cruel word.
She will always wonder how.
Life is so absurd.
Silently she begins to dress.
For now it is time to say good-bye.
Who would have ever guessed,
How soon her love would die?
Even in such deep despair,
In such agony and grief,
She knows the he will be there
To bring her comfort and relief.
His memory will live on
In the child she is about to bear.
For he is not gone,
Just climbing another stair.
