SALTY
Poetry--an art comprised of brain-farts
Oft' expelled o'er bottles of cheap Merlot--
When everything that's said
Sounds profound to spinning head
But is really little more than words' art-deco
Ballad, sonnet, elegy or epic
Limerick, haiku, lyric, villanelle
Surrendering to free verse--
Blogs or memoirs even worse:
No focus or central theme--What the hell?!?
Irony or satire notwithstanding
Metaphor and simile get lost
In this 'skid-mark' known as poetry
Insult adds to injury
And brings to mind Freud's thoughts on Thanatos
No oxymorons, hyperboles, motifs
Euphony, cacophony, enjambment
With little care toward spelling
Punctuating or story-telling
Non-interest in the 'art' is self-evident
Twenty-first century 'poets' for the most part
Will go down in history as avant-garde
With no rhythm, form, or rhyme
They may not stand the test of time
Yet for now they're rated highest on the scorecard
