THE ROSE

In my garden once stood a rose
Its beauty so complete,
Unto my love I took this rose
To lay it at her feet.

Alas my love did scorn the rose
And love I thought complete,
Scorned my love, scorned the rose
Our love 'twas all deceit.

Care not any, 'twards my heart
For in darkness it still glows,
Remember the beauty that I did impart,
In my garden once stood a rose.
