I hate it when you do this.
Why don't you just stop?
I'll pick up the pieces,
I promise.
You just seem to think
I do not hear what you say.
But I can read between your lines
Do you remember how to play?

It was not all that long ago
A smile was on your face.

I hate it when you do this
and look at me that way.
I'll help pick up the pieces
if you'll only let me in.

Don't bite me.
I remember how to play
It wasn't all that long ago
A smile was on my face.

I hate it when you do this
You're chasing me away
And all I really want to do
Is Smile again
And play.

Drat! That was a typo and that's why it didn't make sense. I missed that to entirely when I re-read. Thanks for pointing it out! Should read better now. I'm thinking Dido, Norah Jones or maybe some alternative group could put a lovely musical spin on this one! What an awesome idea.

Maybe drop the first "to"?

So it's "You just seem to think"

That might fit better.

That line and the next are a complete thought. Something like "You do not think I get it." Any suggestions?

Basically, the story behind this poem is that there is someone I loved dearly who always criticized me to the point of tears. He never SAW the tears, but it was something I always wanted to say to him. Now that he's gone... I felt that it would be good to put it on paper.

Anyhow, I'm def. open to suggestions on those lines!

These words would go great with music with the emotion and plain english displayed.

This line made me to a double take:
"You just to seem to think" - i dont understand it

Thanks for sharing,
john
