herald

a skeletal birch is the spirit of patience
when a city wind terrorises it
into a deviltree: a support pillar of the moon
made a gallows for plastic bags'

it has to wait till summer
for its pact with the bay's seaweed vault
of palettes to save its branches from whips,
and its nude roots & limbs
from homicide'
it has to wait to be herald
to the flower of the sun.

now painting this halt:
a transforming gunshot star
soothes the skyline to tigerlily,
bids goodnight the peering city
with a silent burn of colour:

my lover's outstretched leg glowed
& she laughed'the plastic bags glowed
like hell's prototype rainbow & laughed,
blowing about like candles.

I think it's funny why one never reads about the plastic bags that hang on trees-I guess you see that too, on your side of the world. You take litter and make beauty come out of it.

This is fantastic! You really stick to the poetic rule that much must be said in as few lines as possible. Each line is carefully crafted and you have really put thought into this, instead of just gushing simplistically like so many 'poets'.

I love the description of the sun - 'a gunshot star/ soothes the skyline to tigerlily'- beautiful!

And the idea that the tree will flourish again because of a pact with 'the bay's seaweed vault of palettes' (I can just see the colours) is great...

One of the best things I've read on here! :)

Kaper-

congrats on the publication. Much I liked about this. Do you want comments on this one anyway or is it a done deal?
