The Journey of Life
There are six billion people living on this earth, and we all have one thing in common: we are all fulfilling, finishing, or trying to find our goals and dreams. Once you are old enough to understand that you are living life and that you only have so many years until it ends, the question of what your reason for being here arises. What is my destiny? What can I do to change the world for future beings? We enter kindergarten, our first year of this long journey called "school," our first step out of our simple, meager lives with our mothers and toys, to begin our own lives. We never notice this first step we take into the real world, because we usually are too worried about the fact that our mother is leaving us in a room full of people we don't know for the first time. Not until we hit about 9th grade do we realize how important life really is, not until high school do we realize how easily life could end for anyone at anytime. During this epiphany is when we take our first step into the challenging, confusing, and sometimes heart breaking world that we will live on for an unknown amount of days.
People sometimes question the statement "life is too short," because it seems like the longest thing we ever do. Yet it still is considered "short" because everyday seems like it goes by quickly, life seems to flash before our eyes even though it actually is the longest thing we will ever endure. Because life goes by so quickly, we try to surround our selves with the best people we can find living on this earth with us, call them our friends, and take the journey of life with them. Even if the journey you take with a certain friend is a short one, you come to learn different things from each one. You learn that some people are ignorant; some people will give you a hard time or make you cry. You learn that a lot of people are out running aimlessly around this world and do not care about your feelings. Making friends becomes somewhat like trying a sample of ice cream at Baskin Robbins, you try some that taste great, but not good enough to buy, you try some that taste horrible, and then you taste a couple that are amazing'¦ and you buy a cone. The cones you buy are ultimately your best friends, they are the ones you come to love and trust with your life. Best friends are the people you never really search for, but unintentionally appear in your life rather quickly, and they decide that they want to help you with your journey of life and you want to help them with theirs. This world is so large and confusing, that it would be horrifying to step into it alone.
As the sun rises and sets on this earth, we start realizing we are here for a reason. As to what this reason is, most of us are not sure. But we somehow know how to achieve our dreams and goals that we make for ourselves. Everyone's reason for being here is completely different from one another, which is why it is one of the most difficult tasks we are given the instant we are born. We go through thirteen years of school until we walk up to this platform and are presented with a piece of paper; this piece of paper is a notice.
The notice is that we have finished a large chapter of our lives, and this notice is what allows us to take our first step into higher goals for our future life. This paper tells you to celebrate one of your largest completions of life, and start a new dream to complete. Without dreams, without goals, without ambitions, we are left with nothing to look forward to and no ladder to climb in the journey of finding our reason for being here. We put on this massive, baggy, gown and place a cap on top of our head, and walk down towards the next few mysterious and unknown pages in the book called Life, frightened yet amazed at the complexity of it all.
As we leave our safe and warm homes each day, we take a risk. We leave our homes knowing that today could be our last day and things could happen that we least expect. Although the risk of death is always upon us, we have to take it, because life is all about the risks. If no one ever took the risk to do anything, living wouldn't be important anymore, we wouldn't have memories and moments to look back on and smile; we wouldn't have best friends or stories to tell about the best moment we've ever encountered during our lives. The people we hear about on the news and television, the people that we look at in astonishment as to what they accomplished, are the people that have taken many risks to get far in their lives. Life is about the moments that take our breath away, and the people we meet while walking down our long journey of discovery. We learn that there are six billion people living on this earth with us, and any one of them could walk into our life and change it forever; we just have to take the risk of letting them.
