DEAR AMERICA,

America, America
My mournful eyes did see,
A shameful, evil attack
Upon our liberty
Our dignity still in tact
Despite this senseless,
Tragic act,
Lives were lost
For freedom's sake
A sacrifice not easy to make
They called their loved ones on the phone
Just to say 'I won't be home'
Weeping mothers say 'goodbye'
Our nation will avenge their ride
Poets wept
Artist cried
Speechless how to honor lives
Not Republican
Nor Democrat
Not even black
Nor white
We all became Americans
With every tear we wiped
This day will go down in history
Not one filled with misery
But a day we held our heads up high
And waved our flags with shameless pride.

Hopefully our own pain will make us more sensitive to the hell of agony experienced by people all around the world day after day.

The rhythm is great. So is the wording. Totally adding it to my favorites.

Well put by hulshizer. Americans do indeed seem to forget how good they truly have it. Excellent poem.

It was a day which changed us all. And, for a little while, it did unite us. After that day, even people in other countries mourned--for loved ones who also died that day and for the total loss of innocence.
Good expression of a crucial and heart-rending event.
