If Only

A touch
A whisper
Neither here nor there

A spark
Of something
I thought we shared

Your hand
On mine
I anticipate

You sit
In silence
I wish and wait

Patience
Have patience
I tell myself

Yet this
Is my
Idea of hell

To have
What I want
But never quite get it

To know
It could be
If only we'd let it

I like this poem. Beautifully delivered. The simplicity of the piece seems to parallel the simplicity of the thoughts and feelings of the narrator.

I'm a firm believer that short poems can be just as powerful, if not MORE powerful, than longer works. Wonderful work, Kate. It's short, concise and very eloquent.

I reckon this is by far the best piece you've posted so far.
The staccato lines remind me of a poem by Prevert - 'dejeuner du matin,' I think - and conjure up the same agony of repressed emotion.
Bloody well done. Ada XX

Thank you. It seems that sometimes a few words can say the most.

I agree with Lance. I actually think its simplicity makes it more eloquent.
